Every year thousands of teenage girls spend hours getting ready for prom night. It takes a lot of planning on the type of make-up, shoes, jewelry, perfume, dress, nails, and, of course, the hair to come up with a great look that will have the girl feeling like a princess for her special night. Having a stylish hairstyle for prom can really make the difference. There are a few steps to take to ensure that it will be absolutely perfect.
Do Research for Prom Hairstyles
The easiest place to start looking for the perfect prom hairstyle is in prom magazines. They usually start hitting the shelves in January. Don't buy all of the prom magazines. Instead, plan a shopping trip to the bookstore and take some time to look through them. Only buy the one that has the most appealing hairstyles.
Another great place to do research for prom hair is on the Internet. Do a search for "prom hair" or "prom hairstyles." Many of the websites that come up will have pictures of the most up to day hairstyles and detailed instructions on how to create them. Also check out pictures of celebrates from the Oscars and the Golden Globes to see what the latest look are. Print off some favorites and keep them together in a folder.
Talk to a Hair Stylist Before Prom
Don't wait until the day of prom to try a hairstyle for the first time. Make an appointment with a hair stylist a few weeks before prom and bring in the pictures from the research. Talk to the stylist to see what would be possible for your hair type. Let her experiment with some different prom hairstyles and take pictures of how they turn out.
If someone like a mom or friend is going to be doing the hair, pick a day to sit down with them, look over the different style possibilities, and do a few trial runs. Take pictures of the different looks to help make a decision on a hair style later.
Doing Hair on Prom Day
If a professional hair stylist will be doing the hair, make sure to make an appointment a few weeks before prom. Try to schedule the appointment for about 4 to 5 hours before prom if possible. It is easier to style hair that has not been freshly washed, so do not wash it for about 24 hours beforehand. Don't forget to bring a picture of the desired hairstyle.
If the hair is going to be done at home, make sure to set aside at least an hour to work on the style. Try to do it several hours before prom so if something goes wrong, there will be time to fix it.
